Recent New Jersey Beach Replenishment Projects

You may have started to see some exciting developments on the Jersey Shore. A $26.2 Million beach replenishment project is underway this fall which will bring 1.3 million cubic yards of sand to our beautiful beaches. Read on to learn more about this exciting project.

What Towns WIll Be Affected?

The federal government project, meant to restore the beaches that saw the most damage during Hurricane Sandy, will fill in eroded parts of New Jersey’s beaches. Long Branch, Monmouth Beach, and Sea Bright will see the bulk of this massive amount of sand.

So What’s the Plan?

The main objective of the beach replenishment project is to widen the beaches. However, in some spots, dunes and fencing will also be repaired. Beach access points will be restored and rebuilt, and even more sand may need to be moved-in once the finish projects are surveyed.

Will the Beaches Still be Open?

The plan is to have all the projects completed by the start of the Summer, but residents are skeptical. There have been beach replenishment projects going on all over the state for the last six years, so locals are beginning to grow wary of any timelines set in place. The Army Corps of Engineers are hopeful they can stay on track though, and any beach closings will be known ahead of the season.

It Will All Be Worth It

When all is said and done, all that sand is going to make a massive difference for the Shore’s popular beaches. Not only will they look more appealing, drawing more tourists and boosting the local economy, but they will be more functional and family-friendly. It’ll all be worth it in the end.

All the hard work this fall will bring a beautiful summer to the Jersey Shore!
